Longtime Reading resident was a member of the Old South Congregation for 50 years.

Ellen Louise (Jensen) Sandberg, a resident of Reading for 50 years, died May 26 at the Care One at Wilmington Nursing Center. She was 83 years of age. Ellen was born in Malden, Massachusetts on March 14, 1935 the daughter of Myra (Dyer) and Jens Jenson.

Ellen is probably mostly well known as being a food enthusiast and connoisseur. She will always be remembered as being a very generous person who memorized everyone’s birthdays. From early on, she was a collector. She treasured her teapot, spoon, thimble, Hummel and lighthouse collections to name a few. She was a very talented oil painter and enjoyed various arts and crafts but had a special affinity for doll-making. Ellen recently celebrated her 50th year as being a member of the Old South Congregation as well as being a dedicated member of the Old South Church Circle. Ellen was a long-time participating member of the Birka Scandinavian Lodge #732 of Hamilton. Likewise, she enjoyed activities with The Red Hat Society. Some of her favorite memories include schooner-sailing in Maine and her trip to Ireland with her husband Ron. Of all things in life, however, she truly enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Ellen was the beloved wife of the late Ronald E. Sandberg. Loving mother of Brian E. Sandberg and his wife Carol, Brenda J. Gardner and her husband Stephen all of Reading and Peter J. Sandberg and his wife Susan of Medford. Daughter of the late Myra (Dyer) and Jens Jensen. Nana of Deanna, Kayla, Angela, Andrew, Riley, Joel, and Adam. She was predeceased by her brother Gordon Jensen. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
