Erin Calvo-Bacci, the Right Woman for State Senate

Why I support Erin Calvo-Bacci for State Senate and how she is a common sense candidate for the Commonwealth.

When people talk about their senator, they will automatically think about their U.S. Senator who represents them on Capital Hill, yet their State Senator, who represents them on Beacon Hill, has a far greater impact on their daily lives and gets far less thought. On November 6, the people of the Fifth Middlesex district will see the name Erin Calvo-Bacci on their ballot for State Senator, and she is an exceptional voice that our district needs.

Erin is a district local, she was born in Malden and then moved to Reading where she graduated from high school. She then moved to Wakefield to start her own family, later on she moved back to Reading where she resides today. As a life-long resident of the district, and having owned a business in the district, Erin knows its people well and what is important to them. When it comes to being my voice on Beacon Hill, I certainly want someone who speaks for me as much as Erin does.

Erin’s experiences and insights as a small business owner would be invaluable in the State Senate as well. Who knows of the Chocolate Truffle? Up until they sold it, that was Erin and her husband’s brick-and-mortar retail business where they sold their own handcrafted chocolates. Having made many trips there over the years, I can say with certainty that it was a well-run store where the owner was always glad to see her customers and knew their names. To this day, Erin and her husband own and operate CB Stuffer Chocolate Manufacturer which I have toured and was quite impressed by their operations. If Erin is able to represent us in the State Senate as well as she can manufacture chocolate, the Fifth Middlesex district will be very lucky to have such a capable voice. We need someone who understands the consequences that the regulations passed on Beacon Hill have on small businesses which are the pulse on Main Streets throughout the Commonwealth, Erin understands those consequences.

In Massachusetts, we always seem to be facing issues of not having enough money to fund projects around the Commonwealth such as infrastructure improvements and increasing the services made available to students in our public schools, yet in 2017 the State Legislature overrode the governor’s veto to the pay raise they pushed through for themselves and other state employees. While I recognize that the money from this pay raise is a “drop in the bucket” and would not fund everything across the Commonwealth, it’s the principle of giving yourself a raise and then saying that Massachusetts needs more money that does not sit well with me. Erin would never put herself before others as shamefully as that and can be trusted to do what is right, which is to put the needs of the Commonwealth before her own.

I spent the 2018 summer volunteering for Erin’s campaign as a field director and saw firsthand the spirit she has and the effort she will put fourth for all of her constituents as our State Senator. I knocked on hundreds of doors in the heat, humidity, and rain alongside Erin, her husband, and the rest of our volunteers. When someone had a story to share or a concern to voice, Erin always listened intently, and after she shared the ideas that she wanted to bring to the State Senate, people were glad to hear they would have a State Senator fighting to make the Commonwealth work for everyone. The idea of having a State Senator who will work to make sure the state is spending our tax dollars wisely rather than simply raising taxes to support an ever-growing budget is the type of resourcefulness Erin will bring to Beacon Hill.

As a college student, these are all attributes that I find to be of utmost importance. I want a State Senator who will leave my generation and I a Commonwealth where we will not have to shoulder the burden of higher taxes to cover wasteful government spending. I want a Commonwealth that will not have such stifling regulations where I will have to ask, “is it worth it to start a business in Massachusetts?”.

November 6 is fast approaching; the Fifth Middlesex district will have the opportunity to elect a State Senator who will fight for our communities and represent all of her constituents. We will have the opportunity to elect a State Senator who will actively listen to her constituents and be readily accessible to everyone. Please, when you show up to the polls on November 6, join me in electing Erin Calvo-Bacci for State Senate, a commonsense candidate for the Commonwealth.
