This course is designed for rising seniors who would like to know more about planning for a successful college application process and where to start.  The course’s main emphasis will be on writing the college application essay.  Students will learn more about the Common Application and other variations, specific parts of a college application, time management during the process, and how to
write the best college application essay possible. The essay writing portion will involve topic development and free-writing, with hopes of an eventual draft.  A book entitled How to Write a Winning College Application Essay by Michael James Mason, will be used for textual examples of essays, skills needed for basic essay writing, and much more.  Students much purchase this book on their own through any source where it is available.  There will also be one on one time with the instructor.  If students have a laptop, it is recommended that they bring it to use for free-writing in the classroom, but it is not required.

To register, please email Zachary at zcamenker@comcast.net and he will provide you with a registration form.  Space in this course is limited to five students per session.  Should you wish to reserve a space, please email Zachary as soon as possible and he will help you to proceed with the registration process.   If you have any questions, you can also call him at (781)-439-8671.

Although held at Reading Memorial High School, this course is not affiliated with the Reading Public Schools in any way and is being taught by an individual instructor.  The Reading Public Schools is not liable for accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of this course.  All questions or concerns should be directed to the instructor.

About the Instructor

Zachary Camenker is a recent graduate of the Reading Memorial High School Class of 2012.  Having just gone through the College Application Process last year, Zachary brings recent experience to the table.  This past school year, Zachary took his strong interest and passion for writing by serving as a Senior Correspondent for the Reading Daily Times Chronicle.  In this position, he wrote weekly news articles and senior profiles in the Happenings in Education section.  He has also been a working member of the Youth Crew of the Reading Coalition Against Substance Abuse (RCASA) since July of 2010.  A prominent student leader in the RMHS community during his four years, Zachary will be attending Saint Anselm College in the fall to study English and Secondary Education with hopes of teaching high school English.  He is excited to be offering this course for the first time and hopes that it will be good practice for his future career path.
