LiveWires Presents: Washington in the Gilded Age.

Author Kathryn Jacob presents her recent book, "King of the Lobby: The Life and Times of Sam Ward, Man-about-Washington in the Gilded Age."

American history buffs will want to hear about Sam Ward, the late 19th century spendthrift lobbyist who applied his genius for social intercourse to the politics of influencing votes. Kathryn is also the author of "Capital Elites: High Society in Washington, D.C. after the Civil War; and Testament to Union: Civil War Monuments in Washington, D.C."  Kathryn is curator of manuscripts at the Schlesinger Library on the History of Women in America at the Radcliffe Institute.
