There’s a bucket list of reasons you can hang the “SPECIAL” sign on the upcoming spring concert by the Reading Community Singers on Saturday evening, May 7, 2011 at Parker Middle School in Reading.
Off the top, it’s the 91st spring performance by the 70-plus member group, putting it in the running for the title of longest, continually performing amateur choral group in the country. RCS has enjoyed explosive growth under the direction of conductor Beth Mosier, drawing singers from Reading and more than a half dozen surrounding towns. RCS is also very fortunate to have Joe Beninati as our accompanist.

The May 7th concert, set to begin at 7:30 p.m., is titled, All you Need is Love - Music from the Heartand is packed with audience favorites ranging from Broadway’s Jersey Boys and Rent to John Rutter’s For the Beauty of the Earth, Neil Sedaka’s Love will Keep Us Together, and Carole King’s You’ve Got a Friend. There will be a special tribute to veterans when RCS sings Martin’s Song for the Unsung Hero. This concert has it all - love of country, love of nature, love of God, love of family and, of course, romantic love.
Another concert highlight will be a performance by the winner of this year’s RCS Scholarship award, violinist, Meghan O’Keefe. Meghan is currently a music education major at Syracuse University and winner of their School of Music’s Orchestral Award. She will be performing the second and third movements of the Bruch Violin Concerto. Meghan will be accompanied by her mother, Jane Bergeron O’Keefe.
