Tell us why you started your fitness journey?

I started running a couple of years ago and ran some races, working up to a half marathon. During training for my first half in spring 2016, I had a lot of problems with shin splints and other aches and pains. I thought putting more work into running would help me improve my time for my second half in fall 2016, but I ended up hurting my knee during that race and got a slower time. With these injuries, I knew I needed to do something to build strength and more holistically train for the races to improve my time and avoid future injuries. Since I’ve never enjoyed strength training on my own and didn’t really know how to begin, I thought a bootcamp class would make it more enjoyable, and would provide some support to ensure I’m training properly and safely.

What trainers have you worked with at Fitness Within?

I’ve mostly trained with Aaron, Domenic, and Kyle, and I’ve been to a couple of bootcamps with Richie.

I can’t say enough about how amazing the trainers at Fitness Within are! From the beginning, all the trainers are incredibly caring and do a great job getting to know you – both your physical strengths/weaknesses and also as a person. During the sessions, the trainers are great about adapting workouts to each person based on your ability level. If something’s too easy for you, they’ll show you how to push yourself more; if it’s too challenging or you’re unable to do an exercise, they’ll show you a modification. The trainers are very attentive during the sessions, watching everyone closely to make sure you’re using proper form and aren’t going to hurt yourself. The energy the trainers bring to the sessions are contagious and motivates me even on my most sluggish days. It’s not easy to make someone laugh in the middle of 50 burpees, but every Fitness Within trainer can do it!

What have you loved most about your sessions or bootcamps?

I love that every day is something new. When you walk in the door, you never know what workout you’re going to get. It keeps things exciting and helps you not get too comfortable with any routine. I also love seeing the progress I’ve made and continue to make.

In terms of running, I’ve gotten much faster and I’ve had no (knock on wood) injuries since starting at Fitness Within. This spring I took 12 minutes off my 10K PR and 22 minutes off my half marathon PR. The improvements I’ve seen since starting at Fitness Within have helped to give me the courage to register for my first marathon, and I can’t wait to see how it goes! Overall, I’ve noticed improvements in my strength, energy, and attitude towards working out. I’ve lost weight and decreased my body fat percentage. A year ago I wouldn’t touch a weight, and now I crave bootcamps at Fitness Within.

Who would you recommend to Fitness Within?

Everyone! Regardless of where you are in your fitness journey, Fitness Within has something for you. The bootcamps are so adaptable with modifications to make things more challenging based on your ability. Fitness Within is a great place to start, continue, or redirect your path.

Is there anything else you want to add?

Above all, it’s the people at Fitness Within that makes this such a great place to work out. This isn’t a gym, it’s a studio, and you can sense that as soon as you walk in the door. The trainers and staff are very welcoming, approachable, and caring and will be genuinely excited to have you there. The other members also make Fitness Within as great as it is. Everyone is supportive, there’s never any judgement, and you have fun together in the sessions.

I can’t speak highly enough of Fitness Within and would definitely recommend them to anyone who wants to get in the best shape of their life in a fun, supportive environment.
