Fitzgerald Helps Lead MC to 1st Super 8 Title

Ryan Fitzgerald scored a goal and assisted on another to help Malden Catholic win its first-ever Super 8 hockey title in a 4-3 overtime victory over St. John's Prep on Sunday at the TD Garden in Boston.

Fitzgerald, a sophomore from North Reading, notched a goal with 2 minutes, 52 seconds left in the second period after flipping in a centering pass from Mike Vecchione to cut the St. John's lead to 3-2.

Vecchione scored the tying goal with less than 10 seconds left in the second period when he punched in a pass from Fitzgerald.

The Lancers won in overtime on a goal from Brendan Collier nearly 5:00 into the period.

Fitzgerald is a Boston College recruit and the son of former NHL player Tom Fitzgerald.
