Five Things, Including a Reading School Committee Meeting

And a free tour of the Reading Public Library.

Today is Monday, Dec. 5. Here are five things you need to know.

1) Partial sun with some wind. Today will be partly sunny with highs in the upper 50s. Wind gusts of up to 20 miles per hour are possible in the afternoon, according to Weather Underground. This evening will be cloudy, with a 50 percent chance of showers. Lows in the upper 40s.

2) School Committee Meeting. The Reading School Committee will meet on Dec. 5 in Superintendent John Doherty’s conference room at 7:30 p.m., and among the topics for discussion is a review of the Naming of Facilities Policy. Also, the committee will hear the first reading of the Athletic Concussion Policy and receive a personnel update, detailing all the new hires and departures for the first quarter of the 2011-12 school year.

3) Learn to make pottery on the wheel. will be offering on making pottery on the wheel. Classes are Tuesday or Wednesday evening or Wednesday afternoon, and run for three hours per class for 10 weeks. The cost of the course is $250.

4) Tour the Reading Public Library. The public is invited to attend an informational meeting and behind the scenes tour of the library. The RPL would like to hear your thoughts and questions, and will offer a special focus on a specific topic at the end of the meeting.

5) A legend is born. On this date in history, five U.S. Navy Avenger torpedo-bombers take off from the Ft. Lauderdale Naval Air Station in Florida on a routine training mission and are never seen again. The dissappearance of Flight 19’s 14 airmen—and the subsequent dissapearance of the 13-man Mariner aircraft launched to find them—helped to solidify the legend of the “Bermuda Triangle.”
