Five Things You Need to Know Today: Dec. 28

If you've dug yourself out of your house yet, here are some things to keep an eye on around town today.

There's no other way to say it. According to the National Weather Service, it will be sunny in the wake of the season's first major snowstorm. But that sun will come with a price. The high temperature will be near 29 degrees, but wind chill values will make it feel as low as 6 below zero. A west wind between 15-18 mph could gust as high as 39 mph. Tonight will be mostly clear, with a low around 20, the weather service said.

Some scheduled Senior Center events won't happen this week.

The regularly scheduled Exercise With Emma classes at the on Tuesday and Thursday at 9:30 a.m. are canceled for this week due to school vacation. Also, the Wednesday Bingo session is also canceled for this week.

No school doesn't mean no sports.

There's plenty on tap today for Hornets fans. The indoor track team gets an early 8 a.m. start today against North Andover at North Andover High School. The wrestling team tackles the Pentucket tournament at 10 a.m. in West Newbury. The girls basketball team tips off at the Marian Mustang Classic in Framingham at 2 p.m. today. The hockey team faces off tonight at 6 in the Roy Condon Invitational at Burbank Ice Arena in Reading.
