Five Things You Need to Know Today: Feb. 10
Your daily digest of what's going on in North Reading.

Today is Thursday, Feb. 10. Here are five things you need to know:
- Storm free: According to the National Weather Service, there are no significant storms on the horizon for the remainder of this week, quite a change from routine of the past couple months. Today will feature mostly sunny skies, with a high around 26, according to the weather service. Tonight will be mostly clear, with a low around 5, but wind chills may make it feel as cold as 6 below zero.
- Meetings on the agenda: The Hillview Commission meets in the commission office at 149 North St. at 7 p.m. A review of monthly sales and potential bookings are among the agenda items.
- Hornets hockey skates today: The hockey team takes on Triton Regional at 5 p.m. at J.J. Janas Skating Rink in Lowell. This is a makeup game for the one that was postponed due to the Groundhog Day storm last week.
- Framed by Patch: A group of students toured the North Reading earlier this week. Patch photographer Bruce Hilliard was there, and we will have some photos later today in our “Framed by Patch” feature.
- Man vs. machine: On this date in 1996, world chess champion Gary Kasparov lost the first game of a six-game match to IBM computer Deep Blue. The computer was capable of evaluating 200 million moves per second, according to History.com. Kasparov ultimately won the match, taking three games and tying two.
