Five Things You Need to Know Today: Feb. 4

Today is Friday, Feb. 4. Here are five things you need to know:

  1. Sun continues today, ends tonight: According to the National Weather Service, today will feature sunny skies, with a high temperature around 32 degrees. However, wind chills will feel like 1 below zero, the weather service said. It will cloud over tonight, and forecasters are tracking a storm that could affect the area Saturday.
  2. Survey says: Reading Municipal Light Department will conduct a telephone survey in February to measure customer satisfaction, the utility said in a statement. The Center for Research will conduct the survey of a random sample of 400 customers from North Reading, Reading, Lynnfield and Wilmington. The survey firm will not have access to any customer account information, the utility said. In accordance with federal law, the survey company will not release any information that might identify survey respondents, the statement said.   3. Thin Mints are awesome. What’s your favorite?: It’s Girl Scout Cookie time. According to ABCSmartCookies.com, Girl Scouts will be selling cookies across North Reading this weekend. Cookies will be on sale at the Stop & Shop at 265 Main St. on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon and Sunday from 9 a.m. to noon and 1-4 p.m. Cookies also will be on sale at Walmart at 72 Main St. on Saturday and Sunday from 1-4 p.m.

  5. The presidency begins: On this date in 1789, George Washington, who commanded American troops during the Revolutionary War, was unanimously elected president by 69 electors in the Electoral College, according to History.com. John Adams of Massachusetts received 34 votes and was elected vice president.
