Five Things You Need to Know Today: Feb. 9
Your daily digest of what's going on in North Reading.

Today is Wednesday, Feb. 9. Here are five things you need to know:
- Mostly sunny, but cold: According to the National Weather Service, today will feature mostly sunny skies, but it will be cold in the wake of the storm system that moved through Tuesday. The high temperature will be around 24 degrees, but the wind chill will make it feel like 1 below zero. Winds may gust as high as 38 mph, the weather service said.
- Meetings on the agenda: The Board of Assessors meets today at 4:30 p.m. in Room 5 at . The Land Utilization Committee also meets today at Town Hall, with a 7:30 p.m. meeting scheduled for Room 110.
- Get counted: The U.S. Census is over. But Massachusetts state law requires each city and town to conduct an annual census of its residents. Census forms were mailed to residents in early January, and they may be returned by mail or in person to the Town Clerk’s Office, or dropped off in a drop box at the or at Carr’s Stationers in the Stop & Shop plaza on Main Street. - That extra hour of daylight would be really good right now: On this date in 1942, Congress implemented daylight saving time, meant to conserve fuel during World War II. The measure was implemented for the entire year, but it was repealed in 1945, when states began following their own calendars of standard and daylight saving time, according to History.com. It wasn’t until 1966 that Congress adopted a national standard time.
