Flint Memorial Library’s Monthly Book Clubs

The library provides literary escapes in the morning and evening.

If your best great escape is into a book, you are in luck. The Flint Memorial Library offers an opportunity to join with like-minded literature hounds. Ten years ago locals started gathering once a month at the library to converse about current reads and this tradition still holds true today. Roughly 15 members meet and each month one member picks the book and prepares questions.

Book lovers who are in town during the day can join the discussion on the last Wednesday of every month at 10:00 a.m. Those who work during the day can attend the evening discussion the first Tuesday of every month at 7:00 p.m.  This month, the daytime title is War Dances by Sherman Alexie: a collection of short stories and poems that won the PEN/Faulkner Award for fiction last year. The Tuesday night club will honor an annual tradition: every June they share a potluck and watch a novel-based movie; this year’s selection is The #1 Ladies Detective Agency, by Alexander McCall Smith.

They welcome newcomers, so if you are starving for some adult company and conversation, your opportunity is right in the center of town.
