Gallery: Reading Schools Welcome 26 New Teachers

Most of the new staff attend welcoming ceremony Monday night.

The Reading Public School System added 26 new teachers this year, and welcomed most of them at a new teacher reception Monday night.

Earlier this month, the group attended Reading's "Institute for New Teachers." During the five-day camp, they met Reading's administration and learned how Reading's school system works.

School board member Lisa Gibbs called this orientation program Reading's "first huge step" toward retaining good teachers.

Assistant Superintendent Patty de Garavilla said that Reading's new crop ranged in experience to fresh from student teaching, to one teacher that boasted 28 years in the classroom.
