The game is a gift. This is the slogan for the Bauer Hockey ad that catches my eye among a sea of condolence cards. We lost a teammate last month. Our MVP both on and off the ice. Ryan Dyment. He loved everything about hockey. The feel of the ice, the rush of adrenaline, the freshly taped stick, the snugly tied skates and perhaps even the smell of the gloves. The sweat reminded him that he was working hard out there and giving it his all. Every. Single. Time.
The physical sensations of the game of hockey were nothing compared to the mental. The immense loyalty, the camaraderie, the opportunities, the friendships, the FUN! Being part of a team meant you shared in victory and consoled in defeat. Your teammates were there to lift you up, help you become a stronger, better version of yourself. And we had the Captain - #16.
Much like hockey, your team becomes your support system. They take on different positions in life. Instead of that right wing you relied on to catch your pass and score the goal, they become your neighbor, your co-worker, your friend, your family. They continue to share in your joys and pick you up when you need it.

Ryan’s strength of character has helped build our team and they are a phenomenal bunch. They are showing up with fierce devotion, kindness and love. Every thoughtful act, hug, meal, smile and remembrance is honored. We thank you! From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you.
Ryan’s legacy is his compassion for people and knowing what it means to be a valued teammate. As human beings, we are all on the same team playing this game of life. He reminds us to be kind and give it your all.
