High Schools Football Players of the Week

A state rushing record and more passing heroics lead this week's all-star performers.

Zach Levy, Bellingham — In a 48-28 win over Case, the senior became the first player in state history to run for more than 500 yards in a game, finishing with 546 yards on 38 carries that included seven touchdowns. With his 284-yard effort last week in a loss to Wareham, Levy has run for 830 yards in the past two games.

Bobby Maimaron, Duxbury — The Green Dragons senior quarterback threw four touchdown passes in a 35-21 win over Stoughton, tying him with former Natick quarterback Troy Flutie with 112 career touchdown passes. He finished 21 of 32 for 220 yards and also ran for 122 yards as Duxbury advanced to the Division 2 South final against North Attleboro.

Mike Silva, Milton Academy — If it wasn't for Zach Levy, much of the attention would go to Milton Academy's senior back. In a 42-18 win over Governor's Academy, Silva ran for 395 yards and five touchdowns on 31 carries.

EJ Perry, Andover — The one-man football wrecking machine led the Golden Warriors to another playoff upset, beating St. John's Prep, 35-28. The Boston College-bound senior quarterback threw four touchdown passes and ran for 100 yards and a score. He now has 37 TD passes for the season and 104 for his career.

Jordan McAfee, Everett — The Tide's senior quarterback was outstanding in a 43-18 win over Central Catholic in the Division 1 North semifinals. McAfee was 6-for-10 passing for 210 yards and five touchdowns.

Clayton McAlpine, Beverly — We spotlight the sophomore defensive end here but it really should be the entire Panthers' defense. In a 9-8 win over previously undefeated Tewksbury, the defense was the star, led by McAlpine who consistently put pressure on Redmen quarterback Jay Connolly. With 11 seconds to play, McAlpine swatted down a Connolly pass attempt to seal the win.

Elvin Sam, Attleboro — The junior wide receiver and cornerback made his mark in a 35-7 win over Brookline, blocking a field goal attempt and returning it 74 yards for a touchdown, and scooping up a fumble and turning it 25 yards for a score.

Mike LaFrange, Falmouth — The unbeaten Clippers keep rolling along thanks in part to LaFrange, who ran for five touchdowns and returned a fumble for another score in a 51-19 win over Milton. Falmouth (9-0) will face Westwood in the Division 2A South final.

Sal Frelick, Lexington — The junior quarterback continues to put up amazing numbers. In a 61-41 win over Lowell, he was 14 of 21 for 371 yards and six touchdowns, giving him 28 for the season.

Glenn Smith, Lawrence Academy — The Spartans beat Belmont Hill, 33-15, and Smith ran for 278 yards and three touchdowns in the win.

Nick Rajotte, North Attleboro — The Red Raiders knocked off two-time defending Super Bowl champion Dartmouth thanks to their senior running back, who scored three touchdowns and ran for 109 yards in the 37-27 win. It doesn't get any easier for North Attleboro, which faces unbeaten Duxbury in the Division 2 South final.

Jack Barrett, Holliston — The senior quarterback was 14 of 18 passing for 238 yards and four touchdowns in a 41-8 win over Dighton-Rehoboth. He also ran for a score.

Mike Pedrini, Melrose — Just another day at the office for the senior back. Pedrini ran for 232 yards on 16 carries with five touchdowns in a win over Wayland.

Chris Davis, Somerville — It wasn't a playoff game but it was one of the most entertaining games of the season. In a 64-38 win over Concord-Carlisle, Davis ran for four touchdowns as the two teams combined for 47 points in the fourth quarter.
