How To Sign Up for Health Care in Reading

Feb. 15 is the deadline to apply for state health care in 2015. Find out how to enroll.

With the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, most commonly known as Obama Care, health insurance is no longer completely optional. The law established a tax fee for whoever does not enroll in health insurance for the current tax year.

While the uninsured are already out of luck for the current tax season, there’s still time to enroll for 2015. But the deadline is approaching fast.

Anyone who plans to enroll in state health care, which both small businesses and individuals can apply for, must do so by Feb. 15.

Go to the Massachusetts Health Connector, the state’s marketplace for health care enrollment.

Scroll over “Getting Started” and choose the type of health care you need. The options are: Individuals and Families, Brokers, and Small Businesses.

Click on “Apply for Coverage.” This will bring you to a screen where you put in your zip code and choose whether or not you want help paying for health coverage.

Click “Start Now.” The site will take you through a series of questions to see whether you qualify for state aid and home much financial assistance the state can give you.

Congratulations! You’ve officially applied for health care.

But the process isn’t quite done. Once you’re through those questions, you’ll be able to compare your health care options and choose which one you want to enroll in.

Some states let you choose coverage a specific doctor takes.
