Joan Rowell Passes Away

A longtime member of the Old South United Methodist Church

Joan C. “Joanie” (Iverson) Rowell, a longtime resident of Reading, died April 17, 2017 at the Wingate of Reading Nursing Home. She was 86 years of age.

Joan was born in Malden, Massachusetts on June 11, 1930, the daughter of the late Joseph B. and Gladys C. (LeGrow) Iverson. Joan was a longtime member of the Old South United Methodist Church in Reading and was very active in the church choir. She will always be remembered for her love of singing. She was a longtime member of Priscilla Chapter #52 Order of Eastern Star in Reading and was a worthy advisor International Order of Rainbow.

Joan was the beloved wife of the late Walter L. Rowell, Jr. She was the devoted mother of Susan L. McKinnon and her husband Phil of Londonderry, NH; Linda A. Morong and her husband Todd of Spring, TX; Nancy L. Metcalf and her husband Kevin of Methuen and Donna J. Rowell of Reading. She also leaves 8 loving granddaughters, 15 loving great grandsons and granddaughters and a loving great-great grandson.

A Memorial Service will be held in the chapel of the Old South United Methodist Church 6 Salem St., Reading on Friday, April 21 at 12 p.m. Burial is private and there are no visiting hours.
