Local athlete Sarah Lautman is a sophomore playing for the University of Colorado Buffaloes. In recent games, Lautman has been responsible for the game-winning buzzer beaters and victory goals to beat the USC women last Friday (12-11 final score) and then the San Diego State University Aztecs on Sunday (7-6 final).
This week midfielder Lautman earned Mountain Pacific Sports Federation player of the week title, sharing the honor with the Buffs goalie, Paige Soenksen.
“In a way, I think close games are more fun because you have to have that as a team, and you have to have that will to pick up that ground ball,” Lautman said after last Friday's win. “As a team, I think we really handled the pressure well and we stepped up for the challenge. It definitely shows with the win.”
The Friday loss for USC was its first conference loss of the season.
Sarah Lautman is a 2011 graduate of Reading Memorial High School.
