
Eloise Anna (Quigley) Shannon known affectionately as “Lovey” died Oct. 8 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers at the age of 104 years old.
Lovey was born in East Boston, the daughter of Robert and Bertha (Schaefer) Quigley on November 21, 1913. Lovey was an active member of the Old South United Methodist Church in Reading for 76 years, sang in the church choir, and was also a past president of the Patrons for Older Adults. The town of Reading Board of Selectman named a “Eloise ‘Lovey’ Shannon Day” in honor of her 104th birthday. She loved to sing and dance, and was an avid bowler and gardener.
Lovey was the beloved wife of the late Robert W. Shannon and devoted mother of the late Donna Fransen and Paula Shannon. She was the loving grandmother of Trina Hayes and husband Kevin, of Fairplay, CO, and Erik Fransen and wife Robyn, of Hampden, ME, and great-grandmother of Isabelle Fransen and Caleb Moody. She was the cherished sister of the late Bertha Flater, Robert Quigley and Harold Quigley. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. She also leaves behind her dear friends Nancy and Ted Smethurst of Reading.

A Funeral Service celebrating her life will be held on Monday, Oct. 22 at the Douglass, Edgerley, and Bessom Funeral Home at 25 Sanborn St. (corner of Woburn St.) Reading at 12 p.m. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 10-12 p.m. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Lovey’s memory to The Old South United Methodist Church, 6 Salem St., Reading, Ma., 01867.
