Meet Your Neighbor: John Intorcio
John Intorcio is an Engineering Program Manager and has lived in town since 1993.

Name: John Marshall Intorcio – though the last person to include “Marshall” was my mom and she was mad.
Family: I’m married to Shawn Duff Intorcio since 1992. We were an office romance when we both worked together at an energy consulting firm in Burlington, MA. We have two sons, Joshua and Jacob, who are both students at . My mother-in-law lives in Melrose and my father will permanently relocate in March from his home in Florida to a house down the street from us.
Occupation: I’m an Engineering Program Manager for A123 Systems Inc. in Westborough, MA. We manufacture lithium Nanophosphate batteries for automotive, commercial, and electric grid applications. I’m currently working in the Grid Integration group where I help plan the deployment of our large scale storage systems for applications on the electric grid. I just finished a 32MW battery installation in Chile!

School & Major: I received a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from UMASS, Amherst, in 1982. I went to work in Cambridge for a few years and started a Master’s degree with evening courses at Northeastern before dropping out of work and returning to UMASS as a research assistant to finish my degree.
Hobbies: I like to travel for work and for pleasure. I enjoy scuba diving in the summer off of Cape Ann and in the Caribbean whenever I can get there. I spend a lot of time “futzing” on my computer either maintaining our family blog, writing article for others, or playing on Facebook.

Favorite Movie: The Princess Bride!! I periodically make my family watch it with me. There are several lines from the movie that frequently work into conversations. You rush a miracle man, you get rotten miracles.
Favorite Book: I’m not that much of a reader. When traveling, I usually buy some brainless novel from Steven King or Dean Koontz. At home, I’m more likely to read Time Magazine than anything else.
Favorite Restaurant: In North Reading, we regularly enjoy The or the . We also have a soft spot for where the family ownership, great food, and cozy atmosphere remind us of pizzerias we’ve been to in Italy.
Fun fact about yourself: My first job was walking a park with a stick and a bucket picking up trash. I’m an Eagle Scout. I scored a perfect 800 on the mathematics portion of the GRE. I’ve presided over a wedding with a one day license from the Governor. I’ve run 10 marathons with a personal best time of 3:19. I once spent time in the underground bunker at NATO’s Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe complex near Mons, Belgium.
Why North Reading?: It was more affordable than Andover.
How long have you lived in NR?: We moved from a rented duplex in Wakefield in 1993 about a year after we got married. This was to be our “starter home”. We loved the neighborhood and the town so much that we now can’t imagine leaving.
