MLK Event Monday, RED Meeting Thursday

Celebrate Martin Luther King Day by attending community event at high school.

With the theme commUNITY, the Human Relations Advisory Committee will host a Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration Monday at the Performing Arts Center at Reading Memorial High School.

Breakfast starts at 9:30 a.m. and the event begins at 10. The event is focusing this year on student performances and should be engaging for the entire family. Reading Embraces Diversity (R.E.D.) will also have an exhibit table at the event along with the High School "A World of Difference" Club, Reading POWR and Understanding Disabilities. Admission is free.

On Thursday, residents are invited to the next R.E.D. planning meeting at 7 p.m. in Community Room A at the library. R.E.D. leaders will discuss Upstander Training events, the movie series, the results of 2 initial "World Cafe" brainstorming meetings, possible collaborations for a spring lecture/workshop on race and racism, ideas for accessiblity awareness and inclusion initiatives, and a "Transgender 101" community event on Jan. 21 at 5 p.m. at the First Congregational Church of Reading.
