GLOUCESTER CINEMA ARTS SERIES CONTINUES

The next installment of the Gloucester Cinema Art Series, PAINTING THE MODERN GARDEN: MONET TO MATISSE, will be held on Sunday, June 26 at 10 a.m. and Thursday, June 30 at 7 p.m. at 74 Essex Avenue (Route 133), Gloucester. Ticket price for this exclusive engagement is $10 for seniors and $12 for adults.
Monet recognized the garden as a powerful subject, and he became known as one of the most important painters of gardens in the history of art. Long considered the perfect space for expressing color, light and atmosphere the garden occupied the creative mind of not only Monet but other great artists such as Van Gogh, Sargent, Pissarro and Matisse. The remarkable collection of Impressionists, Post-Impressionists and avant-garde artists of the early 20th century, highlighted in the Cleveland Museum of Art and the Royal Academy of London Exhibition, are a testimony to the gifts of many great artists. The widely popular Exhibition is the backdrop for this film, and it takes the audience through a magical journey to discover how the garden occupied the creative minds of Monet and his contemporaries.
As Monet once said, “Apart from painting and gardening, I am not good at anything.” For lovers of gardens and lovers of art this is an ideal film to kick start your summer gardening, summer painting and summer vacation.
MONET wraps up the Arts series for June, but mark your calendar for TEATRO ALLA SCALA: The Temple of Wonders (Milan, Italy) which will be showing at the Cinema on July 31 and August 4. In August, the first of three operas will be coming to Gloucester when LA TRAVIATA hits the big screen August 14 and 18. Finally, the most asked for film SAINT PETER’S AND THE PAPAL BASILICAS OF ROME is scheduled for August 28 and September 1—the perfect way to end the summer in Gloucester.
