Noreen Hogan Passes Away

Longtime Reading resident graduated from Boston College School of Nursing 50 years ago.

Noreen (Wall) Hogan, formerly of Reading and Plum Island, passed away peacefully at home in Salisbury, surrounded by family, on Aug. 8. She was 71.

Born in Somerville, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Dorothea Wall. She was the loving wife of William Hogan for the past 47 years. Together, Noreen and Bill had many adventures traveling throughout the USA, Europe and the Caribbean islands. They especially enjoyed their time on St. John, USVI and Vieques, PR.

Noreen attended Boston College School of Nursing and graduated 50 years ago, carrying with her, not only her degree – but the many friends she still has today. She embraced and exemplified all that is right about nursing beyond the science: caring for, listening to and serving people in need. She especially cared about children. She helped and supported numerous children and their families, over many years, through the care she provided. When she qualified as a Nurse Practitioner she worked with and for the most stressed of children and adolescents -- those in need of help and therapy for the behavioral challenges of living and growing into adulthood. She made a difference.

Second only to her love of being a nurse was her love for her daughters and grandchildren. She leaves behind Katie Hogan of Vieques, PR and Kerri and Eric Tinney of Ipswich. She was the most proud of her grandsons - Liam, Logan and Lucas. She adored the boys, and had a special relationship with each of them.

Noreen was the sister of Kathi and Joe Sueltenfuss, Elaine and Jim O’Callahan, Corinne Wall, Andrew and Karen Wall of Braintree, Julie and Jack Lyons, and John Hogan. She was predeceased by her brother, Timothy Wall. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visiting hours will be Saturday, August 11 at the Douglass, Edgerley and Bessom Funeral Home, 25 Sanborn St., Reading from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. A funeral service will follow at the Funeral home at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Noreen’s name to St. Ann’s Home, Inc, 100A Haverhill St., Methuen, MA 01844
