Pair of Reading Teams Continue Playoff Runs This Week

The Reading girls basketball team and boys hockey team are the final two squads alive in the postseason.

Two Reading High School teams remain in action this week, prepared to play their biggest games of the season to date.

Boys Hockey in Super 8 Hole

The Rockets opened Super 8 tournament play on Sunday at Lowell's Tsongas Center, and despite a strong performance the locals are now facing a series deficit.

Reading lost to Austin Prep, 2-1, after trailing throughout nearly the entire contest. The Cougars pounced to a 1-0 lead in the first period and made it 2-0 late before the Rockets put home a tally with 22 seconds left.

In order to keep its season alive, Reading must win on Wednesday. Puck drops at 7:45 p.m. inside Stoneham Arena in game two. If the Rockets win, the decisive game will take place on either Saturday or Sunday.

The Reading girls hockey team lost its playoff opener to Acton-Boxboro, a 3-2 setback.

Defending Champs Look to Keep Streak Alive

The Lady Rockets basketball team hasn't lost in more than a full season, and they hope to polish off a second straight unblemished campaign soon.

Reading takes on Wilmington on Thursday at 7 p.m. in Woburn. With a win, the Rockets would play on Saturday at the Tsongas Center with a berth in the state championship game on the line.
