Person Of Interest In Reading Homicide Case Found

Vermont State Police located the man, who is tied to the death of a woman at a Reading home.

READING, MA — Police have located a man tied to a homicide investigation in Reading.

Vermont State Police located Ryan Hanafin, 22, on Thursday afternoon.

Police said there is "no further risk to public safety." They added that more information will "follow regarding apprehension and any court appearances."

Police were searching for Hanafin after an "apparent homicide" in Reading was discovered on Thursday morning.

Police received a 911 call at 12:38 a.m. reporting that the body of a 49-year-old woman had been found inside a Center Avenue home.

Police arrived at the home and found the victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. She was declared dead at the home.

Hanafin, a resident at the home, was "unaccounted for at this time," police had said.

The victim in the case was Hanafin's mother, Andria Hanafin, 49, according to NBC Boston.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is conducting an autopsy, but it's believed that the cause of death was a gunshot wound.

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan called the case "a terrible tragedy." Ryan said it's believed that the case is of domestic violence, though the exact circumstances are being investigated, NBC Boston reported.
