Quannapowitt Players explores the seedy side of stamp collecting
Humor, greed and suspense are all found within performances of Theresa Rebeck's "Mauritius"
A suspenseful struggle for a very valuable stamp collection is the basis for the Theresa Rebeck play, ”Mauritius,” performing two more weekends at Quannapowitt Players in Reading.
After their mother’s death, two estranged sisters discover a book of rare stamps that may include the crown jewel for a stamp collector. One sister wants the money and the other resists for sentimental reasons. A seemingly simple sale becomes very dangerous when three seedy, high-stakes collectors enter the sisters’ world. They are willing to do anything to claim the rare find as their own.
Directed by Wakefield resident J. Mark Baumhardt, the show features local actors Sabrina Fenton (Arlington), Christina Petrillo (Newton), Brian Gruhn (Brighton), Gordon Ellis (Waltham) and Alex Thayer (Maynard).
Remaining performances are May 15, 16, 22 and 23 at 8pm, and Sunday, May 17, at 2pm at Quannapowitt Players on 55 Hopkins Street in Reading, Mass. Tickets are $19 general admission and $18 Senior/Student. To purchase tickets, call 781-942-2212 or visit www.qptheater.com/box-office
