Coming up at Quannapowitt Players of Reading from May 16 - 31 is the quirky, humorous psychological crime story "Criminal Hearts," by Jane Martin.
"Criminal Hearts" tells the story of a street-savvy con-artist who breaks into a luxury apartment one night, only to find that every item of value and indeed every last scrap of furniture is gone. All that remains is a mattress, some clothes and a frightened woman who has been cleaned out by her egotistical and bitter husband. Two women from opposite sides of society discover that for all their differences, they share one common trait: desperation. They hatch a plan to steal back all of the woman's belongings. That is, if they can manage to get her to overcome her crippling fear of ever leaving the apartment.
A darkly funny play that is equal parts a clash of cultures and a battle of the sexes, "Criminal Hearts" is a challenging comedy that puts its female characters front and center and dares the audience to re-think what it knows about the role of women in an ever-changing society.
With stage direction by Waltham resident Gordon Ellis, "Criminal Hearts" features local actors Melissa Sine (Watertown), Shawna Ciampa (Lowell), Sacco Sarkis (Boston), Chris Cardoni (Watertown) and Christina Petrillo (Newton).
Performances run from May 16 - 31 at Quannapowitt Players on 55 Hopkins Street in Reading, Mass. The Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening performances begin at 8:00 p.m. and the Sunday, May 18, matinee starts at 2:00 pm.
