R.E.D. Condems Latest Incident, Plans Next Event

All are invited to Nov. 9 meeting at Old South United Methodist Church.

Following is part of a release emailed Friday by Reading Embraces Diversity (RED):

The discovery of another swastika yesterday on public property, this time at the Reading Public Library, indicates our community isn't nearly finished with conversations about anti-Semitism and discrimination. We have reached out to the library and will email with further information about a forthcoming community response. R.E.D. condemns this and all instances of hate speech, and we commit ourselves to the challenging work of deep understanding and relationship building that lead to a safer, healthier, stronger community for all people.

To that end, we would like to invite you to join us at our next meeting as we address this and other crucial issues facing our town. This community meeting will take place on November 9th at 7PM at the Old South United Methodist Church, 6 Salem St. An accessible entrance is located on the West side of the building and marked accessible parking is located behind the church. Please email us for any additional accommodation inquiries.

At this meeting we will set out our goals for the coming months, seek input on priorities and action items, and facilitate break out sessions for action teams around upcoming initiatives! Please RSVP to ReadingEmbracesDiversity@gmail.com. An RSVP isn't necessary but will help us with planning.

Upcoming event: We at R.E.D. wanted to hear more from Dr. Ornstein and to learn more about her personal experiences. Her short presentation was so powerful and was a precursor to a night dedicated to this amazing woman. Join us on November 29 at 7PM at Coolidge Middle School for a presentation by Dr. Ornstein followed by a question and answer session.
