Reading Baseball Earns No. 6 Seed, Softball is 15

Both Rocket teams begin tournament play Thursday.

After three straight losses to end the year, the Reading High School baseball team settled into the No. 6 seed for the MIAA Division 2 North tournament, whose pairings were announced Tuesday.

Reading's first game is at home against Middlesex rival and No. 11 seed Melrose on Thursday.

Lynn Classical (19-1), whose only loss was to Reading on May 19, earned the top seed followed by Wilmington, Danvers, and Beverly, all with 16-4 records. North Andover was No. 5 at 16-5 followed by the Rockets.

Reading was 15-2 heading into the last week of the season but lost to Winchester, Belmont, and Lynnfield. Winchester did not make the tournament but Belmont is in the Super 8 and Lynnfield finished 18-2 and is the No. 3 seed in Division 3 North.

In softball, Reading was the No. 15 seed in the 17-team field in Division 2 North. The Rockets (11-9) will play at No. 2 seed Dracut (16-4) on Thursday. North Reading (18-2) is the top seed.
