Reading Cooperative Bank Makes Charitable Donation to the Reading FIRST Robotics Team

Reading, MA – Reading Cooperative Bank is proud to announce its recent donation to the Reading FIRST Robotics Team the “Robockets.” The $1,000 donation will assist the team in competing and hosting the North Shore District Competition taking place March 7th and 8th. The donation, along with others like it, allows students to put their ideas to work and compete against other schools during the 2015 season. The competition is organized by FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), a New Hampshire-based company founded by Dean Kamen.

The FIRST Robotics Competition is “The varsity sport for the mindTM, FRC combines the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology,” according to their website. The Reading FIRST Robotics Team has grown to 43 members and has 15 technical and business mentors throughout the community who help them to grow and learn. What sets the Reading FIRST Robotics Team apart from other teams is their focus on giving back to the community. Because they are grateful for all of the community support they have been receiving, they want to pay it forward. The team will be holding a canned food drive at the North Shore District Competition, where they hope to show the community just how far they have come and what they are all about.

“The Robotics program has been hugely successful in allowing students at RMHS a chance to have a hands-on approach to technology and engineering. The effect it has on students in developing self-esteem, team building skills, and leadership is not necessarily something that you can always learn in a traditional classroom. It is very rewarding for RCB to assist the Reading community with this program,” says Mike Foley, RMHS Branch Manager.
