Reading Grad's Yearbook Dream Leads To Savannah Bananas Opportunity

READING, MA — A high school yearbook entry helped turn into a memorable opportunity for SNL Youth Academy staff member Austin Lee, who recently got the chance to work with the Savannah Bananas at Gillette Stadium.

When Lee graduated from Reading Memorial High School, he listed working for the Savannah Bananas as his dream job in his yearbook. On Aug. 29, he got a taste of that experience when he worked at the team's event at Gillette Stadium, according to a press release from SNL Youth Academy.

The opportunity came after Reading Memorial High School Assistant Principal Jessica Theriault told SNL Youth Academy founder Carl McFadden about Lee's yearbook entry. McFadden contacted the Savannah Bananas and helped arrange for Lee to work at the event.

Lee spent the day working at the merchandise counter, greeting fans and working alongside McFadden. He also met Savannah Bananas founder Jesse Cole.

Lee is a member of SNL Youth Academy's Ice Cream Dream Team and operates the organization's ice cream truck. He recently graduated from high school and is set to continue his education at Salem State University.

SNL Youth Academy works with recreation departments, schools and community organizations to offer youth sports, enrichment programs, camps and special events in more than 33 Massachusetts communities. The organization says its programs are intended to provide children with opportunities to build confidence and connections while participating in recreational activities.

The press release said Lee's experience reflects the organization's efforts to connect young people with mentors and opportunities beyond its regular programs.
