Reading High Track Impresses at Division 2 Meet

Boys finish 10th, girls 14th in state-wide competition

There were no state titles but there were plenty of top performances for Reading High athletes at the MIAA Division 2 state track championships Sunday at the Reggie Lewis Center.

The boys finished in 10th place with 18 points. Mansfield won the meet with 66 points. Individually, senior Mark Porter had the day's top effort with a second-place finish in the shot put with a distance of 47-4.25. Junior Jack Geiger took fourth in the 300 in 36.58.

In the relays, the 4 x 200 team finished fourth in 1:32.51 while the 4 x 400 and 4 x 800 each finished 10th.

The Reading girls finished 14th. Individually, junior Shannon Parks was the day's top performer with a fourth-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 35-5.75. Reading senior Jacquelyn Iannuzzo was ninth in the two-mile in 12:18.92. Senior Catherine Almeida was 12th in the 1,000 in 3:12.15. Junior Maeve Swanton was seventh in the 300 in 43.34.

In the relays, the 4 x 400 team was eighth in 4:16.75 while the 4 x 200 and 4 x 800 teams each took 13th place.
