Reading PD's 'No Shave November' Raises $3,400 For Home Base

The program helps post-9/11 service members, veterans and their families cope with service-related conditions such as PTSD.

READING, MA — The Reading Police Department raised $3,400 through its "No Shave November" efforts this year, according to Deputy Chief David Clark. Last month, 28 officers pledged $100 and grew out their facial hair in support of Home Base, a Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital program dedicated to helping veterans and their families.

Residents and female members of the Reading Police Department also donated to the effort.

"No Shave November is a wonderful initiative, and it's always a positive way for members of our department to come together and support an important cause," Clark said in a statement. "I'd like to recognize and thank each officer who participated, as well as our female officers, administrative staff and Reading residents who also donated and supported Home Base's mission even if they couldn't grow beards of their own."
