Reading Police Department to Host Citizens Police Academy

CPA will run once a week from Sept. 12 through Nov. 7.

The Reading Police Department will once again offer its Citizens Police Academy (CPA) this fall according to Chief Mark D. Segalla.

The CPA will run once a week from Sept. 12 through Nov. 7, with a graduation ceremony at the conclusion of the last class. Participation is free and sessions will be held on Tuesday evenings from 7-9 p.m. Through the CPA, participants will learn about all aspects of the Reading Police Department’s operations. Each sessions will focus on a different element of the department:

· The investigative process

· Firearms

· Dispatch procedures

· Traffic safety and accident investigations

· Community policing and crime prevention

· Domestic violence

· Patrol procedures

· OUI procedures

· Police officers’ roles in the schools

· S.W.A.T. and Regional Response Teams

After graduating from the academy, participants can schedule a ride-along with a Reading police officer. Attendance at six classes is required in order to be eligible for the ride along program.

“The CPA means is an all-encompassing program that everyone enjoyed being involved with last year, and I’m thrilled that we are able to offer it again,” Chief Segalla said. “The participants last year set the bar high and I’m looking forward to another successful program this fall.”
