Reading Police Issue Warning About Fundraising Scam
Police are warning residents about a recent scam from callers who say they are fundraising for the department.
READING, MA — Police have issued a warning about a fundraising scam.
Police recently wrote on the department's Facebook page: "We were notified that a group is calling stating that they are fundraising for the Reading Police Department or on behalf of Chief Clark for the Reading Police Department.
"The numbers come from a 413 area code and the callback number goes nowhere. The Reading Police Department is not conducting any fundraising."
