A Facebook post from our friends in the Reading Police Department.

Tonight Officer Joseph Belmonte will complete his last shift before retirement. Officer Belmonte has worked his entire 19 year career working the "nightshift."

Before joining the Reading Police Department, Officer Belmonte retired from the Marine Corps as a Staff Sergeant. During his time in the Marines, he was deployed to Beirut & Iraq. He was assigned to Embassy Security and was also on the Presidential Helicopter Squadron.

Officer Belmonte is always one to avoid the spotlight, so the other night he was surprised by Deputy Chief Clark and Lt. Brown during Roll Call when he was presented with a Proclamation from the Massachusetts House of Representatives, a shadow box, and street sign. We wish Joe the best in his retirement!
