Reading Symphony Orchestra Auditions

The Reading Symphony Orchestra is preparing for their 2015 - 16 concert season and is eager to welcome new musicians!

The Reading Symphony Orchestra is eager to welcome new musicians

for our 2015- 2016 season. Under the leadership of Maestro George Ogata, the RSO will be performing the Dvorak Cello Concerto, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5, Brhams’ Symphony #1, and Bernstein’s Symphonic Dances from West Side Story next season, in addition to other masterworks. Our season includes three concerts (November/March/May) and weekly rehearsals on Tuesday evenings at Coolidge Middle School in Reading, MA.

  • Bassoon
  • French Horns (including principal)
  • Violas
  • Double Basses
  • Percussion

We are holding auditions on August 25, 2015 and September 1, 2015 from 6:30 – 10:00 PM at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Reading, 239 Woburn St., Reading, MA 01867.

For these auditions, musicians are asked to prepare excerpts from two (2) contrasting pieces: one that is fast and technical while the second should be slow and lyrical. These selections may be movements from the same concerto or sonata, or two completely different pieces. Each excerpt should last no more than 3 minutes. Candidates will also be asked to sight-read, and no scales will be required.
