Reading's John Tewksbury Passes Away

Obituary from the Douglass, Edgerley and Bessom Funeral Home:

John A. Tewksbury, a resident of Reading for 53 years, died on January 8, 2019 at the Winchester Hospital. He was 83 years of age.

John was born in Boston, Massachusetts on January 19, 1935 the son of Winthrop and Helen (Hoffman) Tewksbury. He graduated from Arlington High School in 1952, Boston University in 1957 and Suffolk Law School. John Proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. John, better known as “Grampy” was a wonderful loving father, husband, and grandfather. He cherished spending time with his four grandchildren, traveling with his wife Barbara of 57 years and playing golf with his long-time friend Roger Currie. He was a kind and compassionate man loved by his family and will be greatly missed.

John was the beloved husband of Barbara (Benedict) Tewksbury. Devoted father of Mark H. Tewksbury and his wife Amy of Skaneateles NY, Peter W. Tewksbury Bartlesville OK, and Karen T. Roscoe and her husband Jim of Reading. Loving grandfather of David, Laurie, Everett and Caroline.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 12 at the Douglass, Edgerley and Bessom Funeral Home 25 Sanborn St. (corner of Woburn St.) Reading at 12 p.m.. A visitation will be held prior to the service at the funeral home from 10-12 p.m. Burial is private.
