Retired Fire Fighter Charles H. Greenleaf Passes Away

Longtime Stoneham resident served in the United States Coast Guard.

An obituary from Barile Family Funeral Home:

Charles H. Greenleaf of Stoneham passed away on Friday, Jan. 11 at Winchester Hospital. He was 81 years of age.

Born on January 13, 1937 in Woburn, Charles was the loving son of the late Charles H. Greenleaf and Hazel (Gordon) Greenleaf. Charles was a warm and caring son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He will be truly missed.

Charles was a United States Coast Guard veteran. Charles was stationed out of Boston and the Gloucester Light House and served on the USCGC Duane. He served as a SN, E-3. Following his service, Charles was a member of the Carpenter's Union working as a floor and tile layer. In January of 1972, Charles was hired as a Fire Fighter for the Town of Stoneham. He worked as a Fire Fighter until his retirement in November of 1994. Charles was a life member of the Stoneham American Legion where he served as Commander for 2015. He loved spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren.

Charles was the beloved husband for 59 years of Barbara P. (Gangi) Greenleaf. He was the devoted father of Kim Harding and her late husband Mark and Scott Greenleaf and his wife Melissa. The cherished grandfather of Ryan & Megan Harding and Thomas Greenleaf, Charles was the dear brother of the late Joan Andrews and her late husband Joe. He was also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral from the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main St. (RT 28) Stoneham, Friday, January 18th at 9 am followed by a Funeral Mass Celebrating Charles' Eternal Life in St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St. Stoneham at 10 am. Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share memories with the Family on Thursday, January 17th from 4-8 pm in the Funeral Home. Parking attendants and elevator are available. Interment with Military Honors will take place at Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.
