Rockets Edged by Tewksbury in North Semifinal

The Reading softball team played well, but couldn't muster enough offense and was eliminated with a 3-1 win on Wednesday night.

The Reading High School softball team wasn't your typical No. 13 seed.

Though the locals entered this year's tournament as the second to last seed in the bracket, they still powered all the way to the North Division 2 semifinal. The team proved again on Wednesday that its gauntlet of a regular season schedule was the reason its seeding needed to be thrown out the window, even in defeat.

Reading played a strong game in its semifinal versus Tewksbury, but couldn't get a key hit late. The Rockets were eliminated following a 3-1 defeat at Lowell's Martin Field.

Trailing by two runs, the locals loaded the bases with two outs in the sixth inning and put on two runners with one out in the seventh. None of the runners crossed home plate however, and the season came to a close.

With the loss, Reading's season ends with a record of 13-10 while the Redmen advanced to take on Burlington for the sectional title.
