Rooftop Solar? RMLD Customer?

The Best Time to Install is Now!

Green Sanctuary, Climate Justice Group of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Reading, encourages any customer of the Reading Municipal Light Department (RMLD) considering an investment in rooftop solar panels to apply for an RMLD solar rebate by Dec 30, 2020.

Why?

  • RMLD is currently offering unusually generous solar rebates, for which you must apply by 12/30/2020. Installation must be complete by 12/30/2021.
  • The Federal tax credit for a solar install is a whopping 26% this year, but is scheduled to decrease in 2021.
  • Massachusetts tax credit for a solar install is 15%, up to a max of $1,000.

The RMLD website (https://www.rmld.com/my-residence/pages/residential-rebates) describes the program as follows:

RMLD has partnered with the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources (DOER) to offer customers a limited-time rebate for the installation of solar systems that are 25 kilowatts (kW) or less in size. The amount of the rebate will be based on the size of the system installed, and equates to $1.20 per watt. Rebates are not to exceed 50% of the total installed costs of the system and are capped at a maximum of $30,000. Qualifying conditions such as access to direct sunlight should be considered and are specified in the program’s technical requirements.
RMLD still has about $400,000 available for residential solar rebates. If the money isn’t used, it goes back to the State Treasury. What a waste, when YOU could be using those funds plus state and federal tax credits to pay most of your installation costs!
