Scoring Outburst Leads Girls Lacrosse to Season-Opening Win

Hornets defeat Malden, 19-6, in non-league game Monday afternoon.

The North Reading girls lacrosse team opened its season Monday with a 19-6 win over Malden at Malden High School.

Kara D'Aleilo and Kat Mazzone led the Hornets' attack with five goals and two assists each, according to coach Bob Gannon. Also scoring were Chandler Knight (four goals, three assists), Alicia Calos (two goals), Katie DiPetro (one goal, one assist), Merissa Milano (one goal, one assist) and Gina D'Alelio (one goal).

Catherine Pepe and Brittany Leonard added one assist each.

Leonard, Emily Welch, Deidre Kelly, Maddie Pulver and Sandra Schipalliti anchored North Reading on defense. Erin Brooks made several spectacular saves during her first career start in goal, filling in for an ill Brenna Ford, Gannon said.

The Hornets open their home schedule against Newburyport at the on Thursday at 3:45 p.m. The first game of the season against Austin Prep, which was postponed due to last Friday's snow and rain, has been rescheduled for April 21 at 1 p.m. at .
