Your student could go to Spain next summer!

Dear families,

Is one of your goals for the new year to spend more quality time with your family? Host an exchange student this summer! Students between the ages of 14 - 17 come from Vigo, Spain each summer and need host families in the North Reading area. They will be here for the month of July and day trips will be planned twice a week for the students and families, if interested. Families that host an exchange student find themselves sitting at the dinner table longer, doing more activities, and bonding during this wonderful experience. This will be the 4th year of the very successful program. Spanish students have returned to North Reading to visit host families and North Reading students have travelled to Spain to visit their friends. Many text messages, emails and Skpy sessions still take place from 3 years ago!

FAQ’s:

What if my children go to summer camp? With enough notice, the Spanish student can enroll at summer camp. This has been done many times.

What about my family vacation?
Almost all host families have taken their exchange student on a family vacation! If there is a large expense, like plane tickets, arrangements can be made with enough notice.

My child has a part time job and we work full time, can we still host?

Almost all host parents have worked full time and most host siblings have had part time jobs or other commitments. Arrangements should be made that the student is never left home alone. Other host families, friends of your children, and I can help fill this time.

My house is small and we don’t have an extra bedroom.

That is fine! The exchange student can share with one of your children or you can turn a home office or extra space into a temporary bedroom.

Will the student have his/her own spending money?

YES! You need to provide meals, room and board and the student will have spending money for activities and shopping.
