Teamsters Local 25 & Gov. Charlie Baker Award Scholarships

30 local high school students awarded college scholarships worth up to $60,000

(Boston, MA) June 4, 2018 - Teamsters Local 25 of Boston awarded college scholarships worth $60,000 to 30 high school students at its May membership meeting, held at the Local 25 Union Hall. Teamsters Local 25 President Sean O’Brien was joined by Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker as he presented students with Teamsters Local 25 Memorial Scholarship Awards. Teamsters Local 25 provides scholarships each year to children of Teamster members and retirees as a way to help the next generation of leaders achieve their academic and career goals. Among the students awarded scholarships was Grace Leahy of Reading. Grace attended Reading Memorial High School and will attend University of Massachusetts – Amherst. She is the daughter of Brendan Leahy, a Teamsters Local 25 member who works at Waltham Lumber.

“The young men and women receiving these scholarships are a shining example of why we can be optimistic about the future,” said Teamsters Local 25 President Sean O’Brien. “At Local 25 we feel a deep responsibility to provide opportunities for the youth who will be our next leaders. Supporting and inspiring the next generation is the smartest investment we can make to ensure we create a better world for all moving forward.”

“Congratulations to all the students whose hard work is being recognized with these awards,” said Governor Charlie Baker. “Investing in education will open doors to further opportunities and we look forward to the contributions these students will make in their communities.”

Teamsters Local 25 is the largest Teamsters Union in New England, representing more than 12,000 workers.
