Thank you to the Peabody Housing Authority for going Smoke Free

Letter thanking the Peabody Housing Authority for going smoke free.

Thank you to the Peabody Housing Authority for adopting a smoke-free policy to protect residents in their homes from second hand smoke. The housing authority has been diligently working on this transition and recently, four hundred eighty three housing units have become smoke-free.

The Peabody Housing Authority has demonstrated its awareness of the dangers of second hand smoke. Understanding that smoke drifting between housing units cannot be contained and that there is no safe level of exposure, the housing authority has demonstrated its commitment to the health and safety of its residents and staff. The management understands and respects the needs of its residents who do smoke and assists them to connect with service providers who can help smokers with this transition.

With its new rule, the Peabody Housing Authority joins the growing number of public and private multi-unit housing properties throughout Massachusetts with smoke-free policies, a positive trend that protects residents from the serious health effects of breathing second hand smoke. Everyone deserves to be able to live a smoke-free life.
