Tuskegee Airman Visits Reading Senior Center
Flight Officer Howard Carter attended the Scuttlebutt meeting at the senior center.

Flight Officer Howard Carter, a member of the Tuskegee Airmen, recently attended the Scuttlebutt meeting at the Reading Pleasant Street Senior Center.
He shared his experiences and showed the documentary “Double Victory”. The film spotlights the historic role of the Tuskegee Airmen, America’s first all-black aerial unit which served during World War II. Even though the Tuskegee Airmen faced enormous challenges of discrimination, inferior equipment, and heightened scrutiny, the pilots and support personnel excelled. The story shows how these Airmen inspired the Civil Rights Movement upon their return from the War.
Scuttlebutt meets the first Thursday of each month at the Pleasant St Senior Center from 10 a.m. to noon. Contact the Reading Veterans Services Officer, Kevin Bohmiller at 781- 942-6652 for more information.
