On June 24, 2017 twenty members and friends of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Reading marched in the 6th annual North Shore Pride Parade in Salem, MA. The church has been a Welcoming Congregation for over 20 years and marches in the parade each year. The group, North Shore Pride, seeks to promote the general welfare, and enhance the social life of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community of the North Shore, and to promote the acceptance of the members of this community by the broader North Shore community. Every year since 2012 they have sponsored a parade through the streets of Salem followed by a festival on the Common to raise money and awareness for their cause. Martha Moore of UUCR notes "We are very pleased to have been able to participate in this wonderful event for the last four years and to demonstrate our commitment to be an open and welcoming community for all."
