What To Look For In Week 2 Of School Football Season
Win or lose on opening weekend, there's still hope for your season.

So what do we know after one week of the high school football season? A couple things.
Xaverian is nowhere near as good as they've been in the past, just ask Everett. Record-setting quarterbacks at Andover and Duxbury have clearly graduated, just ask their fans. And Sal Frelick just may be the best player in the state (if you have to ask ... he's the Lexington quarterback).
Nineteen teams were shut out, while St. Mary's alone scored 54 points. Soon we'll be talking about power ratings, but for now mind-boggling math can wait. Here's a look at what's up for area schools this weekend.

Arlington (1-0) at Stoneham (1-0), Fri., 6:30 -- The Spy Ponders won on a last second field goal last week, while Stoneham won by two. Arlington's Alijah Woods ran for 182 yards and four scores. Tre Pignone ran for 225 for Stoneham. The Spy Ponders will have a hard time putting up the 37 points they did in last week's win. But can Stoneham score more than 14?
Hamilton-Wenham (1-0) at North Reading (1-0), Fri., 7 -- The Hornets opened the season with an impressive win at Brighton, led by quarterback Kyle Bythrow, who has the perfect name to describe how it happened. The senior threw for three touchdowns in the win. As for H-W, the Generals pitched a shutout against Fenwick. Hard to believe they'd do the same on the road.

Wayland (0-1) at Lynnfield (1-0), Fri., 7 -- Wayland was a lot of people's pick to go deep in the playoffs and while holding a 14-0 lead last week the thought made sense. But Hopkinton scored 18 straight points to pull off the win. The Pioneers play the second of four straight home games.
Reading (1-0) at Acton-Boxboro (0-1), Fri., 7 -- On the one hand, it's hard to predict what the Rockets will face given the retirement of longtime A-B coach Bill Maver. On the other hand, A-B has switched to a more conventional offense, something Reading has seen many times before. A-B lost to Chelmsford in its opener and gave up 21 second-quarter points.
Winchester (0-1) at Wakefield (0-1), Fri., 7 -- Some 0-1 records hurt more than others and Winchester's last second loss to Newton South was certainly painful. Especially when you consider quarterback Liam Fitzpatrick could miss this game with a knee injury. But Wakefield's thumping at the hands of Reading wasn't good either. The pressure is on the offense, which averaged 13.2 ppg in 2016 and opened with 14 against Reading.
Chelsea/Pope John (0-1) at Northeast (0-1), Sat., 10:30 a.m. -- Northeast gave up 46 points to Manchester in its opener and the defense must improve. On offense, Zach Anderson ran for 181 yards and three touchdowns. Pope John was shut out by Lynn Tech in its opener so if the Northeast defense wants to improve, this could be the week.
Austin Prep (0-1) at Greater Lawrence (0-1), Sat., 4 -- The Cougars didn't lose the game last week, just the first quarter where they were outscored 13-0. After facing the Reggies, AP dives headfirst into the Catholic Central schedule and starting that 0-2 would be tough.
