Young Women's League of Reading Raised Over $17,000 Last School Year
Young Women's League of Reading Kicks Off a New Year

The Young Women’s League of Reading, a philanthropic organization, is hoping to top their fundraising efforts in the new school year. The organization, founded in 1950, raised over $17,000 during the 2013-14 school year, according to members.
The group funded $2,500 in scholarships through the Reading Scholarship Foundation, divided among five high school seniors. The group earmarked $4,000 for B.E.A.K.E.R. (Bringing Educators and Kids Exploratory Resources), which provides science equipment and materials to Reading’s elementary schools.
Additionally, the group funded museum passes through the library, provided funding to the police department for fighting substance abuse and to the fire department for replacing the infant intubation system. Additionally, funds were given to Reading Elder Services, the Reading Food Pantry, Mission of Deeds, Friends of Reading Rec for fireworks, hospice, Creative Arts, EMARC, Birthday Wishes and Understanding Disabilities.
The league members donated items to Help Our Troops, Understanding Disabilities, made and served meals in soup kitchens, provided Thanksgiving meals to families in need, purchased gifts for and visited elders during the holidays,
